Oceanus watches have always been more premium than their US counterparts from the Edifice line. For a period of time, the Oceanus line was available for retail in the US but Casio took a turn and discontinued the line thus making it available in Japan only. Thanks to the internet, nowadays you can buy it without necessarily be in Japan, and get a taste of what a true Japanese watch looks and feels like.
I think it is very important to mention that in the Oceanus line Casio has only released exquisite watches with top notch specs and more importantly, unmatched material quality and manufacturing. That is why many people prefer the Japanese versions when they want to make a watch investment.
At the first look, the Oceanus Cachalot comes with a very elegant and professional design. I love the fact that Casio chose titanium for the case and band. I also like stainless steel but I think that titanium offers better overall endurance and a more premium feel on the hand. Ultimately titanium is also lightweight.
This is yet another one of those Japanese watches that respects the “set it once then never touch it again” ideology because it incorporates all the required technologies for an accurate time and date. Of course, this is valid as long as you live in one of the countries where Casio has its radio syncing stations. More on this in the next paragraph.
The atomic timekeeping is useful for those who need a highly accurate time at all times. The syncing is being done automatically through radio signals whenever the watch is near Casio’s stations around the planet. Generally speaking, if you live in the US, Canada, Europe, China or Japan you will enjoy good coverage at all times.
Other features present in the Casio Oceanus Cachalot OCW-P1000 are the solar charging, 100-meter water resistance, digital compass for easy navigation through unknown environments, full auto calendar preprogrammed until 2099, and basically all the small features which are also present in the G-Shock line like a countdown timer, stopwatch, etc.
Casio actually did a great job with the Oceanus Cachalot OCW-P1000 by incorporating up to date technologies in a beautifully crafted case. I consider this watch to be a very smart long term investment.
