Although not a declared dive watch the Casio EF503D is a great companion for everyone who wants to combine the benefits / pleasures of an active life and the necessities of more rigorous business or personal life. This is the reason why this Casio is what I consider an undiscovered bargain. It is not so popular but it comes with advantages that you hardly find in other models which are famous and more expensive.
The impression it makes at first glance is a simple and elegant watch, not so big neither too small. The advantage of this appearance is that you can wear it anytime without having to think it will not fit the type of activity. Planning a business meeting? Or maybe a session of scuba diving with your friends? Either way, the watch will fit the environment and will come with the features you need.
Speaking of features, the Chronograph is one of those functions which make the difference between a capable watch and an inert object on your wrist which only tells the time. The Chronograph is similar to a stopwatch which tells the elapsed time. It can be used in multiple situations and professions. Aviators and divers alike love them and often use them as a method of synchronizing with other pilots or in the case of divers, be sure they do not run out of air.
Another feature worth mentioning is the tachymeter which is used to make speed calculations using the chronograph feature. In order to make these calculations, you need to use a certain formula for speed. More on that here.
Considering that most recreational divers won’t go beyond 100 meters of water depth, the water resistance of this watch is more than sufficient since it does not intend to compete with serious diving tools. The illumination is not one of the best out there but it definitely makes the watch readable in almost any environment no matter how dark. The hour marks and the index hands are rectangular and are made from a quality metal with chrome edges. While the illumination makes the hour and minute index hand visible in dark light, that is not the case with the three little sub dials on the back, neither for the index hand for seconds. This means that you won’t be able to use the chronograph and tachymeter during night time.

It is a watch that impresses with its features, simplicity, and great value for the money, making it one of those best buys of the watch market.
