Representing a complementary tool for aviators, the Citizen JY0010 Skyhawk is one fine timepiece which comes with plenty of features to make your life easier and a titanium case which I will describe in a second.
Citizen is well known for making great quality watches, but the Skyhawk is even more. It is a surprisingly well manufactured watch.
I think the Eco-Drive technology does not require any further introduction. This solar charging technology has been developed by Citizen and improved over time. This combined with the atomic timekeeping feature basically eliminates the need of ever setting the watch after the first configuration. You set the watch once you take it out of the box then never touch it again. This is the beauty of atomic watches. The perpetual calendar completes this trio with years preprogrammed in advance. Finally, you will not have to worry about swapping batteries, setting the time or setting the calendar at least not anytime soon.
The titanium case is lightweight and very tough. It is one of the best materials to make a case from. The dial is pretty crowded with multiple subdials and markings for its different features like the power reserve indicator, frequency scale and more. The digital display on the left side is for the world time feature which lets you select from 43 different cities whenever travelling to a new time zone.
The only disappointing thing about this watch is the window which is made of mineral crystal. The mineral crystal is not top of the line quality as the sapphire quality which is tougher and better in every other aspect. Considering the price tag I think it would have been pretty easy for Citizen to avoid this shortcut.
All in all the Citizen JY0010 Skyhawk is a great watch for aviators. While you can surely wear this watch even if you won’t be using its advanced features I do not recommend it because you can get a similar quality Citizen without the overcrowded dial.
