Looking for the awesome all-black Japanese Version of the watch, the G-Shock DW-5600BB-1JF?

The Casio DW5600E is a pretty straightforward G-Shock. It comes with all the basic features of a G-Shock like shock resistance, countdown timer, 660 ft. water resistance, alarms or stopwatch. This is one of the most popular G-Shocks ever created and the main reason of that is the incredibly good price/quality ratio; it basically is a bargain for what it has to offer.

Since Casio did not intend to go fancy on this watch, the design is simple, featuring a practical square display and a comfortable band. The case back uses a 3239 module and is made of stainless steel. Finally, the buckle is shiny and uses one single pin that goes with the multiple tightening levels on the strap. Speaking of size and fit on the hand, this is one of the smallest G-Shocks on the market, coming at dimensions of 48.9 X 42.8 X 13.4 mm and a weight of 54 g. It will definitely not feel as a burden on the wrist and that makes it an overall better watch for daily use.

DW5600E-1V - A tough watch

DW5600E-1V – A tough watch indeed

On the screen, you can see the hour with minutes and seconds, the day of the week and date. This is the default configuration from which you can further set the other functions of the watch. For example, with a press on the left down button, the alarm settings will show up, then with another press you get the timer, then the stopwatch, and with the fourth press you get back to the home screen. The other buttons are used to adjust the modes enumerated before and for the lighting. As expected, things are pretty basic, no sophisticated sensors or any stuff like that. Also, this is a watch that you can set once then never touch the configuration buttons again until you have to swap the batteries; a thing that you will have to do once a couple of years.

Illumination

Illumination

I would say that the illumination is more or less useless, but I realize that it would be unfair to this watch since it does not praise of any dark light capabilities or “see underwater” stuff, so all I say is that the only help you’ll get is when it is dark enough that you cannot read the hour without a little help from the EL backlight. And that’s pretty much it. Don’t expect any superior or smart illumination from its tiny backlight system.

At this price you literally can’t go wrong. If you consider that a cheap and practical G-Shock is all you need for the moment, you can go with the DW5600 without any further thinking. You won’t be disappointed.
