Every G-Shock fan always looks for Japanese versions of these watches because their quality is so much better than the quality of the models made in China or Thailand. Since Japanese quality is superior, the prices are also higher mainly because of the higher wages in Japan. So generally speaking if you want the Japanese version of a G-Shock you will be delighted with the quality but you will also have to pull more money out of your pocket.
The G-Shock G-8900-1 comes with both great features for an active life and a quality design with a lightweight body. The main material used is the famous resin plastic from Casio although the bezel is made from fine aluminum which gives it an overall better look.
A common complaint among watch users is the illumination and readability of the display. Fortunately, in the case of the G-Shock G-8900, the backlight does its job quite remarkable. During nighttime or dark situations simply press the “G” button below the word Protection. The backlight feature on this watch has a lot of tweaks. You can change the duration, you can set an auto light switch with which you can turn on the backlight by positioning your wrist at a certain angle. The feel on the wrist is great. It was created with a very good ratio between the weight and the footprint. As opposed to bigger G-Shocks or other heavier watches with the G-Shock G-8900 you won’t have to be in an accommodation period. Simply wrap it around your wrist and forget you are wearing a shock and scratch resistant watch.
