Two Altichron Models on Amazon:
The Promaster series from Citizen has always been a very appreciated line up due to the numerous models which were manufactured responsibly and with quality in mind, in order to finally prove much appreciated by the end customers.
Straight from the beginning, you need to know that the watch is big, coming with a diameter of almost 50 mm, and with a thickness of 17.5 mm. That is not to say that it doesn’t fit good on the wrist. It’s true that you will have to wear it for a period of time before you get used to its size, but it will finally make for a great experience.
While Citizen aims to be as frank of a company as it can be, there are still a lot of commercial names and features present on this watch that I would like not to speak about simply because they do not represent the most important things on this watch. Some of these would be the Duratect coating which in theory would make the watch “four times tougher” than normal, which is simply not true. The most important aspect when it comes to the toughness of a watch is by far the material from which the different parts are made of. Saying that a coating suddenly makes everything tougher is simply not true. But again, I do not want to speak too much about these commercial aspects, rather about real life experiences and impressions.
The construction is above all, resistant. The watch rocks a titanium case and a mineral crystal window which are both made to weigh as little as possible and be as tough as they can be, at least when speaking about the titanium case. While on a watch from this price range I would have liked to see a sapphire crystal window the mineral one is still reasonable. What I like about the dial is that although it is quite crowded, it maintains a great look by combining different yellow, orange and white inscriptions.
The altimeter is a nice feature to have, although I would recommend, as in past reviews to use it as no more than an estimative tool. Do not expect accurate readings similar to professional tools because it won’t happen. Remember that this is not the case with this watch only. Generally, you should know that watches are not meant to be precise measurement tools except when speaking of time.
The Citizen Altichron BN5030-06E is a performer especially when it comes to the design, reliability and everyday experience. That is why it makes for a great choice when you add up the pros and cons together. It is not perfect as I said previously, but it definitely is a great choice for a good looking outdoors watch.
